As a 49 year old mum of two rebuilding a business in the wake of the pandemic the seeming obligatory hormonal weight gain is not something that has passed me by. Accompanied with the extreme exhaustion and 3-4 pm sugar cravings it seemed no matter what I did I struggled to maintain or lose weight.
Whilst dietary changes and increased exercise were helping somewhat, I found myself stuck in a rut and unable to add any more steps into my already very demanding day.
As a physiotherapist and an advocate of cold therapy I knew only too well the benefits of full body cryotherapy and this was precisely the reason to add it to the plethora of services we offer at the wellness hub, I wasn’t however fully prepared for the immediate and compounding positive effect it was going to have on both my mental health and waist line simultaneously.

Having read the research and understanding the effects of vasodilation and vasoconstriction, increased metabolism and reduction of cortisol levels I was encouraged to add whole body cryotherapy into my wellness regime, especially when it only involved three to four minutes of my time, didn’t involve getting wet and zero hassle to implement (I mean what could be easier).
So I’m a month in having done it twice a week and the results have been outstanding. I am able to resist the 3-4 pm sugar cravings, my relationship with white wine and caramel buttons has disintegrated and I am down a dress size.
Now for the science bit, As a physio and scientist we all love to measure outcomes, so I tracked my calorie burn on my Garmin watch every day for a month. My base metabolic rate has increased and my calorie burn has increased by 400 calories a day, the only change I have made to date is the whole body cryotherapy.
