Gait Scanning

The Gait Scan system is a computerised pressure plate which measures the distribution of force throughout a patient’s foot during each step

This state of the art analysis tool is able to produce objective detailed data that will aid in the diagnosis of abnormal foot biomechanics.

Why have a gait scan:

We assess foot position, weight distribution and posture so you can carry yourself with ease. Biomechanics focuses on the relationship between your foot alignment and how this affects the rest of your body.
The principle of this is that if a foot position is out of alignment, it can affect your shin which in turn, can put stresses on the hip and eventually the back will compensate for this. If left untreated, the neck and shoulders can also be affected! Leg length discrepancies can tilt the pelvis and lead to undue stresses or loads being put on different parts of the body and then eventually foot, knee, hip and back pain.

What happens next:

Our physiotherapists can issue appropriate orthotics, as well as advising you on exercises and lifestyle changes, to correct your stance. Additionally, the patient’s gait and balance are assessed as appropriate, all findings are explained in detail and a gait report given to each patient. For more complicated problems, Emma James Physiotherapy has links with specialised London Podiatry Clinics as well as more local highly qualified podiatrists.
